We get this question every day, and the honest answer is that we don’t run the ferries, so only the operators can confirm today’s sailings. Here’s what normally runs, how to check, and what to do if the sea doesn’t cooperate.
The regular daily schedule
Two companies sail from the Muelle de Cabotaje in La Ceiba:
- Galaxy Wave (Roatán): La Ceiba to Roatán at 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM; Roatán to La Ceiba at 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Regular class is $31 one way from La Ceiba or $51 round trip. Register at the terminal at least one hour before departure.
- Utila Dream (Utila): La Ceiba to Utila at 9:00 AM and 4:40 PM; Utila to La Ceiba at 7:00 AM and 3:20 PM. Check in at least 30 minutes before departure.

When the ferries don’t run
- Bad weather. Strong winds and rough seas, especially during cold fronts, can delay or cancel sailings, and the port authority can close the port.
- Holidays. The Utila Dream doesn’t sail on New Year’s Day or Good Friday, when the ports are officially closed. Extra trips are often added around Easter and New Year.
How to check today’s status
- Check the operator’s official website or Facebook page for announcements. Galaxy Wave posts its schedule at roatanferry.com.
- Call or visit the ticket office at the dock if the weather looks rough.
- If you’re traveling with us, message us on WhatsApp. We’re in La Ceiba and can tell you what we’re seeing at the dock.
If your ferry is delayed or canceled
If you’ve booked an airport transfer with us to or from San Pedro Sula ($400 per van, $40 per passenger with 10 aboard) or Palmerola/Comayagua ($500 per van, $50 per passenger), up to 10 passengers, message us as soon as you hear about a change and we’ll work out a new plan with you. Our transfers are timed to the ferry schedule, so we’re used to planning around the boats.
